Are you wearing SPF?

I’ve heard it all. “I’m not outside much.” “It’s raining.” “I sit in an office all day.” “It’s wintertime.” People, people, people! I respond, “Do you see sunlight?” The answer is usually YES! Guess what? When you see sunlight, sunlight sees you. This is the best way I can make people realize that they need to be wearing SPF! I will admit that I don’t put it on my arms and legs on a daily basis (even though I should definitely be putting it on the backs of my hands to avoid sun damage a.k.a. wrinkles & brown spots). I use it under my eyes, on my face, neck & decolette. Sun damage is the leading cause of skin cancer and definitely the leading cause of brown spots, wrinkles, and the signs of aging. Why do you think the people who live in the tanning bed have dark, leathery skin? They are totally damaging and dehydrating their skin, causing this to themselves.

I have really sensitive skin, so I was always turned off by sunscreen, it always irritated my skin and burned my eyes. I have recommended Neutrogena Healthy Defense (with Helioplex) SPF 50 to dozens of people, even men who have never worn sunscreen before, and they all really like it. It isn’t greasy, it soaks right in, it doesn’t burn and it is the perfect amount of moisture for someone with oily or combination skin. I’ve used Dermalogica’s Total Eye Care with SPF 15 for about 6 years now, it’s a little pricey, but guess how many times I have purchased it…. Just THREE times, it lasts forever and I love it. When I go without it, I start to notice my undereye area wrinkling up. These are just the products that I have found that work perfectly for my sensitive, combination skin. It doesn’t really matter what you use, as long as you are using something! Well, I say something. Some foundations have like SPF 4 in them and believe me, this is not enough for anyone. Layering SPFs on top of each other does not layer your protection either like most people think. When you mix products together, you actually get the SPFs average. So if you mix sunscreen of 50 with a non-SPF lotion of SPF ZERO, you are only getting an SPF of 25.

We will share Jenny’s story of having melanoma very soon, and it just shows how important this is for everyone in the prevention of skin cancer. So just remember, even when it’s cold, rainy, or if you sit in an office all day… the sun still sees you! : D  You will be thankful for wearing sunscreen when you age more gracefully than the sun worshippers that burn their skin!

Waxing every 4 weeks…to the date…

Some think you can wax just whenever… It is possible, you can do whatever you choose of course. But the absolute BEST way to wax is to get on an every 4 week schedule. It’s crucial to having the results you dream of. It all comes down to the science of our hair growth patterns, which takes a while to explain, but trust us…. Waxing exactly every 28 days is key. If you wax every three weeks, you are breaking up the hair cycles and training your hairs to come in sooner. if you are waiting 5-6 weeks, you are catching a cycle that is only half way grown in, inevitably leaving hairs that are too short to wax. My dedicated clients that wax every 4 weeks have less and more sparse hair than clients I have that have had laser! Just a little something to ponder if you are wanting finer, more sparse hair! :)

What is this “Cry Baby Mascara” you ask?

So everyone keeps asking what Cry Baby Mascara is, and although it is quite simple, it is a little difficult to explain because there are so many questions. How could something possibly be a semi-permanent mascara? Well, that’s what it is, plain and simple! ; ) Anyone that knows me, knows that I watch the Today Show every morning. Well, actually I just listen to it while I am getting ready. I love Bobbi Thomas’ beauty segments and in between putting on mascara and blow-drying my hair, I’ll run over to the TV to watch these segments of the show. So my attention was really caught when I heard her mention semi-permanent mascara. I ran to watch what it was! She said she loves this service and that you could go to their website and type in your zip code to find it near you. So that’s what I did, but there was not a single place in Fort Worth offering it. I was disappointed because I REALLY wanted this service for when my husband and I were going to the beach the next few weeks. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about mascara running down my face when I got out of the water. So I went back to putting on my makeup and it donned on me… duhhhh! Why don’t WE offer the service? Why it took me 5-10 minutes to think of this, I do not know, I think because I was pouting in my head about not being able to get the service done on myself because Bobbi Thomas REALLY made it sound like something I couldn’t live without. So I contacted Cry Baby Mascara immediately. They had no scheduled classes in Dallas. I was bummed. They did, however, have a class scheduled in Vegas that happened to be when some of my friends were going to be in Vegas. They had invited me but I thought there was just no way I could go, I am a busy girl. Well, this suddenly had now changed from fun to business and I was going to make it happen! : ) I got it all scheduled out and was really excited to learn about the service and get it done for myself by the actual trainer (selfish…I know) for my trip! But most importantly, I wanted to make sure this was a quality product that would be beneficial to our clients and do what it says it does. So they say it lasts two weeks and then it starts to just kind of disintegrate. You don’t have to get it removed because it is made to start coming off on it’s own after 2 weeks. I was shocked to still have the product on after 4 weeks. Of course it didn’t look as awesome as it did for the first couple of weeks, but it was still on there. (Which you can start to put your regular mascara on once it starts coming off… so it doesn’t look bad or anything like that.) This is after going to the beach, in and out of salt water, sweating, everything! I couldn’t believe it! And it is definitely water-proof and smudge-proof. Once it’s on your lashes, it is ON there. I almost liked the curl that lasted while the product was on there as much as the product itself. Everyday, I would wake up bright-eyed, lashes curled, mascara on, ready to go! It was amazing. Once it started really coming off after the 4 weeks, I was really missing it and the convenience it provided me. I never realized how much time I spent in the mirror each morning curling my lashes and trying to get my mascara just right. Luckily for us, they had another class in Vegas on June 11th, perfectly corresponding with the Las Vegas International Cosmetics, Esthetics & Spa Conference and the International Beauty Show that we had all been wanting to go to ever since we became estheticians! By this point, I knew for myself that this product definitely lived up to everything it says on their website, and I couldn’t go without having it! So Jenny, Alex, Crystal & I went and now we are all certified in this amazing service! We have done quite a few since, and everyone really seems to enjoy their mascara. People ask if this is a tint? It is not a dye. The product is black so it goes on black, but when it comes off, your lashes are not tinted black. They also have other colors you can add to the product if you’d like hints of color which is neat! Some people think they want really, really thick mascara. This is fine when it is mascara that you remove every night. If we did the Cry Baby really, really thick, your lashes would stick together and be together until the product came off or was removed. So, if this is the look you like, you can always add mascara to it for when you are going out, etc. For everyday, it is best to do the mascara more natural and thin, and it looks really, really good this way on everyone it seems. That way it looks like you have the lashes you have, and not spider-leg lashes. We will get some pictures up on here and our Facebook page soon! We have been so busy but we really need to take the time to do that! Thanks for reading, and let us know if you have any questions that are unanswered here! ; )

What happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay in Vegas

Hey everyone! I wanted to share with you all about our Las Vegas trip! On June 10th, Jenny, Alex, Crystal & I set out for Viva Las Vegas! It was each of their’s first time to Vegas, but I had been just a few weeks before to go to the CryBaby Mascara class myself to make sure it was a service worthy of us providing! We had quite the agenda, as soon as we dropped off our luggage at the hotel, we headed straight to the International Esthetics, Cosmetics, & Spa Conferences and the International Beauty Show! Both were being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which was super convenient & our tickets got us into both shows! Normally, when IECSC comes to Dallas, the IBS does not tag along. It was really neat to go to the IBS because this included cosmetology, so we got to see some really fun hair styles and products!

Just a few of the crazy hair styles we got to see! It was really cool! : )

Besides seeing hair styles, Alex & Crystal got their picture taken with these guys:

We told them we would listen to their “schpill” after they took pictures with us, but then their      “schpill” was about nails…oopsies!

For some reason I couldn’t stop laughing when taking these pictures! I think the guy on the right wanted to ask Crystal for her # : )

We also attended some makeup classes and watched some really neat demonstrations! We saw the sweet FarmHouse Fresh ladies and stopped by their booth, they were shocked that we hadn’t put the products out yet! We were waiting for the big reveal of the boutique when we got back into town to put all the new products out…more on that in a little while! ; ) So the shows kind of wore us out, so we went back to the hotel and had a low-key dinner that was yummy! The next day, we woke up bright and early to go to the much-anticipated CryBaby Mascara class! We learned all about the product and application. This service is amazing. Who wouldn’t want semi-permanent mascara? I’m going to write my next blog all about it! This blogging is kind of fun! : ) So after the class, our minds were full but our tummies were starving! We headed to the strip and ate the most amazing lunch/dinner at The Sugar Factory. We walked around afterwards and looked at some hotels, it was a fun night and then it was time to come back home the next morning! While we were away, Jennifer and my friend Amanda (whom I owe both a great amount of Thank You’s!) were busybees giving the boutique it’s big makeover with things I had ordered before we left! We came back and our jaws dropped, it’s like being in a whole new place! The walls are still bare, but we are waiting on our CryBaby Mascara & Sweet Spot Labs certificates to make nicely framed collages in the rooms. We came back so excited to tell everyone about what we learned and then to walk into a new boutique, it was the best feeling and the excitement hasn’t worn off yet! So they say “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” but we can’t let it stay…. we have to tell you all about it! ; ) We now have the CryBaby Mascara service to offer, and we have FarmHouse Fresh Goods & Sweet Spot Labs products! And maybe a few things we learned about at the shows but haven’t decided on yet! : ) We have the best clients that deserve the best, so we are keeping up with the West Coast and East Coast trends and bringing them to YOU! Did you know we are the FIRST salon in Fort Worth to offer CryBaby? We had to fly to Vegas, but we finally got it HERE! Thanks for reading my very first blog, I’m excited to write more and our Waxing Queens are going to write some informative blogs as well! Thanks for reading! : )
